1. Hello Thomas, tell us a little about yourself!
Hi! I have been working at pacemaker.ai as a full-stack software engineer since November 2023. Shortly before I started at pacemaker.ai, I completed my master's degree in computer science.
2. How did you come to join us and what appealed to you in particular?
I became aware of pacemaker.ai through online job ads. The modern tech stack, which matches my skillset almost exactly, appealed to me a lot. I also found the advertised working conditions very attractive. So I applied immediately.
3. What was the application process like for you and do you have any tips for the selection process?
I found the application process to be very pleasant. I had an initial interview with HR, then an interview with HR + CTO + SWE, and finally another interview with HR. All the interviews were very pleasant, on an equal footing and relaxed. The HR interview was an opportunity for us to get to know each other, including a consideration of mutual interests and goals. The second interview had a technical focus. It was about my specific skillset and the technologies used.
4. How would you describe the vibes in our office and what do you find particularly cool about our working atmosphere?
Our team spirits is very strong. Everyone is included, you immediately feel like a part of the group and you're integrated very quickly, especially through our buddy program. This makes you feel welcome and valued right from the start. We also have a goal-oriented culture that is very motivating. Every opinion counts and decisions are not set in stone.
The atmosphere in the office is great! We work, drink good coffee, have lunch together and regularly spend time together after work playing Mario Kart or doing sports.
5. What does your typical workday as a software engineer look like now?
Since we work according to SCRUM, I work on the tickets assigned to me on a daily basis. However, my tasks not only consist of pure coding, but also of refinement meetings, discussions with the team, pair-programming sessions, and infrastructure and cloud topics. As a full-stack software engineer, I have a very broad range of responsibilities at pacemaker.ai and gain insights into many very interesting areas.
6. What has been your most exciting project so far or do you have a cool story about successful teamwork?
I found the implementation of a scaling project on our backend side particularly cool. Together with our cloud engineer, I designed the connection to our ML pipeline to be scalable using Azure Batch processes. This undertaking required implementations and adjustments in the areas of cloud, webapp backend, proxy API and ML pipeline. The fact that this now works and that we are much better positioned in terms of scaling is the result of cross-team collaboration, which I appreciate very much.
7. How does our company help you fulfill your potential?
By giving me the opportunity to try things out and gain insights into all kinds of areas. During my studies, for example, I hadn't worked much with cloud providers like Azure or administered Kubernetes clusters. Now, these things are also part of my job description, which gives me the feeling that I can develop freely, continue my education well, and often think outside the box.
8. Your personal highlight so far!
I don't have a specific single highlight, but I see the overall package at pacemaker.ai as a highlight. After graduating, I was sure that I would spend as much time as possible working from home. But thanks to my colleagues on site and the really nice office, I actually enjoy going to the office often. The team days, which take place every month, are always a highlight!
9. What would you tell a future pacemaker?
We are always looking forward to new faces and are always looking for capable people who want to become part of our mission! If you are motivated and looking for a cool, modern work environment in a young team with the latest technologies, then you've come to the right place!
Thank you, Thomas, for sharing your experiences and impressions with us so openly! Stay tuned for more inspiring stories from our great team at pacemaker.ai.
